Preparing a new generation of architects capable of combining creativity, technical knowledge, and responsible approaches to the built environment is essential for the sustainable development and reconstruction of Ukrainian cities.
On 18 June 2026, Vinnytsia National Technical University (VNTU), a partner of the GreenBUILD project, hosted “Architect’s Diary 2026” – a review and exhibition showcasing creative and educational works by students of Architecture and Urban Planning.
The event highlighted students’ professional growth, bold architectural thinking, and individual approaches to design, providing an opportunity to see how architectural ideas evolve throughout the educational process.
Architect’s Diary is more than an exhibition of completed student works. It offers a glimpse into the creative process behind architectural design, revealing how students perceive space, buildings, landscapes, and the contemporary urban environment.
The exhibition featured course projects for residential buildings, physical architectural models, drawings, graphic works, and landscape studies of Vinnytsia. Each project combined artistic creativity with technical knowledge while reflecting the individual vision and design language of its author.
The works represented different stages of architectural education – from initial graphic and compositional experiments to increasingly complex spatial and design solutions.
Together, they formed a kind of personal creative diary, documenting each student’s journey through learning, experimentation, discovery, and professional development.
Architectural education requires students not only to understand technical principles but also to develop spatial thinking, creativity, visual communication skills, and the ability to transform an initial idea into a feasible design solution.
Architect’s Diary demonstrated this process in practice – from the first sketches and drawings to three-dimensional models and fully developed architectural concepts.
Particular attention was drawn to detailed physical models and artistic works exploring the character and urban landscape of Vinnytsia through the eyes of young designers.
The event brought together students, academic staff, and guests, creating an environment for professional discussion, exchange of ideas, and reflection on contemporary architectural approaches.
Activities such as Architect’s Diary play an important role in practice-oriented architectural education. They encourage students to present and critically evaluate their ideas, explore different design approaches, and connect artistic concepts with technical and functional requirements.
These competencies are particularly important in the Ukrainian context, where future architects and engineers will be expected to contribute to the reconstruction, transformation, and sustainable development of cities and communities.
The challenge is not only to rebuild what has been damaged, but also to rethink the built environment by applying modern approaches to sustainability, resource efficiency, resilience, accessibility, and quality of life.
The educational philosophy demonstrated by Architect’s Diary is closely related to the broader objectives of the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education project “Green & Energy-Efficient Building Design for UA Renovation (GreenBUILD)”.
GreenBUILD aims to modernise education in Ukraine by strengthening knowledge and competencies in sustainable and energy-efficient building design, renovation, and reconstruction, while integrating contemporary European approaches and practices into university education.
As a GreenBUILD partner, VNTU contributes its expertise in architectural and engineering education to this process. The combination of creative design thinking, technical knowledge, practical project work, and emerging sustainability competencies will help prepare future professionals capable of developing innovative solutions for Ukraine’s built environment.
By supporting practice-oriented architectural education and connecting it with new knowledge in green and energy-efficient design, the GreenBUILD partnership contributes to preparing a generation of specialists ready to shape the sustainable, resilient, and high-quality reconstruction of Ukraine.
