The GreenBUILD consortium has successfully completed the Needs Analysis Report, marking an important milestone in the development of the future Master’s programme in Green and Energy-Efficient Building Design. The report was finalised at the end of May 2026 following several months of intensive stakeholder consultations, meetings, interviews, and data collection activities.

The needs analysis combined a comprehensive literature review with a large-scale stakeholder survey involving 108 respondents from across the construction sector, as well as 16 in-depth interviews with employers, industry representatives, engineers, manufacturers, and public sector stakeholders. These activities provided valuable insights into current labour market challenges, workforce needs, and emerging trends in sustainable construction, energy efficiency, digitalisation, circular economy, and post-war reconstruction.

The findings confirm a strong and growing demand for specialists in sustainable and energy-efficient construction throughout Ukraine. Employers consistently highlighted the need for graduates with practical skills, experience in digital construction technologies such as Building Information Modelling (BIM), and competences related to green building technologies, circular construction practices, and sustainable renovation.

The analysis also revealed a clear gap between existing educational programmes and labour market expectations. While current programmes provide a solid theoretical foundation, stakeholders emphasised the importance of strengthening practical training, interdisciplinary learning, industry engagement, and the integration of modern digital tools into higher education curricula.

Importantly, the study demonstrated strong support for the GreenBUILD initiative. Many stakeholders expressed their willingness to cooperate with universities through internships, guest lectures, curriculum development, joint research projects, and the provision of real-life case studies, creating a solid foundation for long-term university–industry collaboration.

The completed Needs Analysis Report will serve as a key evidence base for the design and validation of the GreenBUILD Master’s programme, ensuring its alignment with European standards, labour market requirements, and the needs of sustainable and resilient reconstruction in Ukraine.
